Bringing the Experience Full Circle

Just a plain, stone wall from over 4000 years ago may not be that impressive to some people, but to me it symbolizes many things. The most important of these things is the idea that Jews aren’t going down without a fight. As much as people dislike us, try to drive us out of our homeland, and attempt to kill us, the Jews are here to stay. This stone wall stands as a testament to our will to survive adversity and whatever our enemies might throw at us.

During Shlichut Noar NFTY, We gained knowledge of different viewpoints that complicate the issues facing the State of Israel today. The opinions presented us were extreme solutions to a variety of problems – which taught us that these issues really have no easy solution that will readily please everyone. This lesson is something I’ll never forget.

Endurance and Commitment to Israel

“After a few minutes of waiting, we got the chance to speak with Gilad Shalit’s father. When one of us asked what we could do back in the States he said that there wasn’t really anything we could do. This man has been living in fear for his son for five years now, and his situation has not changed. He has reason to feel at loss. However, I still admire the fact that he is still fighting. He continues to sit in that tent, day after day, looking at the empty chair next to him with a sign saying, ‘Reserved for Gilad Shalit.’ Despite his discouraging words, I am still able to take inspiration from Shalit’s father, through his endurance and commitment.”
